| 1115-2 - C.J. Spooner - $3000
Early 1900s galloper from the carousel works of C.J. Spooner of
Burton on Trent. Characteristic of Spooner horses showing the kind facial
expression and the mane falling in curved skeins, this jumper clearly
follows the influence of German tradition in the more naturalistic treatment
of the anatomy and trappings. An eagle back saddle rests on the bordered
blanket, flowers and foliage fall from the breastband and the hindquarters
are breeched of a scalloped band with tassels and tri-lobed loin straps, characteristic
Spooner metal ears. As it came off the carousel, seams evident, chips,
many layered distressed park paint. Glass eyes, natural horsehair tail.
60 long x 45 high.
